Women and Power in East Europe: Round Table on Political Participation of Women

11/11/2008 - UNDP in Bosnia and Herzegovina organizes a round table on political participation of women in East Europe and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), today in Sarajevo.

Almost 20 years after the political transition in Eastern Europe and CIS countries (including Bosnia and Herzegovina) began, the issue of political participation of women in public life has not been solved. The transition process develops without significant women participation in social and political life. This situation entails a need for further research of the problem.

The round table entitled Women and Power in East Europe and CIS aims to initiate a discussion about these matters in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The round table will also be followed by a subsequent publishing of the report on these issue as a token of support to transitional countries in the context of the respect towards international gender equality standards.
